With the release ASHRAE 62.2-2013 and the updated 2012 IECC standard a new horizon is emerging, one that will transform the HMVAC industry – Heating, Mechanical Ventilation, and Air Conditioning. This transformation has resulted from decades of continued improvements in building design and efficiency as well as increased awareness on the intricacies of indoor air quality (IAQ) and occupant health. Additionally, the expanding partnership between regulatory agencies, research institutions, trade associations, and businesses has resulted in ever-increasing stringency of building code and broad adoption of sustainability metrics for the built environment. Ultimately, the momentum of this market transformation will have trickle-down impacts on many trades, one of which is ventilation, and specifically, mechanical ventilation.
